Trentham
In the heart of the Wombat Forest and the Macedon Ranges and Spa Country, you’ll find the township of Trentham. Trentham is home to Victoria’s highest single drop waterfall where the Coliban River plunges 32 metres over basalt columns. Best viewed after heavy rain, many gather at the picnic reserve to see the spectacular falls.
Today Trentham is known as one of Victoria’s hidden gems, a rural retreat with a range of accommodation, fine dining, organic farms and beautiful nurseries. Community facilities include: public halls, sports reserve, community house, kindergarten, primary school, fire brigade, police station.
History
Trentham's history reflects a diverse background which included gold and timber, farming and manufacturing. Settled in 1855 after gold was found in nearby Blackwood, Trentham sits atop the Great Dividing Range, 800 metres above sea level.
Although a small town now, in 1890 over 20,000 tonnes of produce (mainly timber) left the Trentham Railway Station. The town thrived on forest industries including: eucalyptus distilling, charcoal burning, sawmilling, and fence post & firewood cutting.
