Co-production treaty arrangements

The Australian Government has entered into official co-production arrangements with six countries - Canada, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy and the United Kingdom, and Memoranda of Understanding with France and New Zealand. The effect of these arrangements is that a film or television program approved as an official co-production is regarded as a national production of each of the co-producing countries and is therefore eligible to apply for any benefits or programs of assistance available

Tax Offset Rebate

Tax offset rebate. The Commonwealth Government of Australia has introduced a refundable tax offset as an incentive for large budget film productions to locate in Australia. The tax offset will provide a benefit worth 12.5 per cent of a film's qualifying Australian production expenditure. This is provided to the film production company through the company's tax return. The offset amount will be applied against Australian Federal tax liabilities accrued in the production of the film, with any excess refunded
